Mutiara Laut

46m | 7 CABINS | 15 CREW
A classically-styled schooner with the modern conveniences for a life of luxury, Mutiara Laut offers guests the sophistication of a hotel in the farthest reaches of Indonesia's islands.

The Ocean Pearl

Ideal for extended journeys at sea, Mutiara Laut was purpose-built for exploring areas beyond the reach of traditional travel, while still providing all the comforts of home. Private charters include exclusive use of her seven cabins, all meals, excursions and activities. Mutiara Laut can accommodate up to 18 guests, while groups of six to 10 will be equally comfortable.

Superb Dutch Engineering

Mutiara Laut is a masterful creation. Fusing the seafaring capabilities of an 18th century North Atlantic schooner with the heart of an Indonesian phinisi, her streamlined ironwood hull, tall masts and massive sails contribute to upwind performance unlike any other vessel of her size. Mutiara Laut’s design is a harmonious fusion of Asian and classic European craftsmanship paying homage to old world charm. The sumptuous styling contributes to the feeling of a classic, floating hotel ready to explore the ends of the Earth.

The Cabins

Master Suite

The full beam master suite opens on to a private deck aft. Tastefully decorated with Asian accents, it features a king-sized bed, desk and seating area, making her ideal for extended passages at sea. Walk-in wardrobes provide exceedingly generous storage space.

Six Deluxe Cabins

Each of the six ensuite cabins features a settee that converts into an extra single bed while the single beds in the two forward cabins can be converted into double beds. The cabins are equipped with high end entertainment systems, abundant storage and ample shelving.

Crew

Captain Andi has been with Mutiara Laut since she was launched in 2010. He is of the Bugis people, legendary for their maritime culture. Captain Andi has continued his family tradition of sailing throughout Asia for the better part of two decades. Arifin, the cruise director, has been also been sailing the Indonesian archipelago for more than 20 years. His intricate relationships in places less traveled, including Papua, is an extraordinary asset to guests looking for unique experiences. Anis, the chief officer is from Lembata, where traditional subsistence whaling on oar-powered boats is still practiced. He has the widest smile of the crew and can frequently be seen entertaining guests on deck with a guitar around his neck.

History

Mutiara Laut’s story is that of the journey of a remarkable man and his life experience as a yacht builder. Leendert Philippus Van Oostenbrugg, Leo for short, translated every part of his love for the ocean and sailing into Mutiara Laut, which was to be his final yacht and masterpiece.

Having traveled the planet six times over as a captain, Leo started a shipyard in Holland creating magnificent yachts for people who shared a similar vision for life – to explore the world in hope of discovering their true selves. After a successful career Leo retired in Bali only to realize that he wasn’t quite ready to slow down.

While cruising through the Indonesian Archipelago Leo was inspired to fulfil his last wish and set out to combine the sum of his life’s sailing experience into a custom ironwood hull from Kalimantan. Leo lived to see Mutiara Laut under sail and sadly passed away shortly after. His memory lives on each time she heads upwind.

There is no replacement for the feeling onboard a wooden sailing yacht. This was Leo’s vision – the fusion of master craftsmanship on the ocean with wind in the sails, traveling to far away islands. Sailing Mutiara Laut in Indonesian waters is unlike any other experience on Earth.
